We Are Wakefield Business Lunch (in conjunction with the Yorkshire Society) 15 March
Members of Wakefield Historical Society attended the business lunch at Gaskell’s Restaurant, designed to showcase all that Wakefield has to offer. Following canapés and an excellent lunch cooked and served by the students at Wakefield College, Claire Southerly, Managing Director of ‘We Are Wakefield’ introduced Kevin Trickett, President of Wakefield Civic Society. Kevin explained how he came to be involved with the Civic Society, and then described the history of Wakefield, explaining its importance as the centre of the West Riding, gaining its wealth from the mills, mines, and engineering.
He was followed by Sir Rodney Walker who described his illustrious career. He is the controlling shareholder of Myerscough Holdings Ltd. Group which is involved in property development. He was Chair of Wakefield Trinity, the Rugby Football League and Sport England amongst other appointments. He is President of the Wakefield Branch of Yorkshire Cancer Research and was President of the £5m Yorkshire Spinal Injuries Appeal. He is a trustee of the National Coal Mining Museum and Chairman of the Yorkshire Society.
