Visit to Morley Community Archive 22nd March

Wakefield Historical Society members join with the groups across West Yorkshire as part of  West Yorkshire Archives Community network group. On 22nd March Morley Community Archive were hosts to the group. Dr Clive McManus gave a presentation explaining the history of the archive which had originally been a collection belonging to David Atkinson, a Morley historian. A group had been set up with the aim of keeping the collection in Morley, and digitising as much as was possible. The collection is now housed in the Atkinson room in Morley Library, and in 2011 it was given accreditation. Apart from caring for the collection, the group give talks to local schools, and provide tours of Morley’s imposing town hall.
