“Their Finest Hour” Project, is a nationwide digital history project funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and run by the University of Oxford.
Their aim is to digitally preserve the stories and physical heritage from the Second World War era which is kept by the UK public and store this in a free-to-use online archive for the use of future generations.
As part of the project, they are coordinating over 70 events throughout the UK – these events are known as Digital Collection Days (DCD). At one of the DCDs, people are invited to bring along objects, photos, documents and other physical items from the Second World War era, as well as stories that connect them all, to be digitized and uploaded to our online archive.

They are really looking for anyone whose family members and forebearers served in the Second World War, or rendered some form of service for the national war effort, to come forward and share their stories, memories and physical heritage with them for digital preservation.
