Yorkshire Society Launches ‘2023/24 Harry Gration History Prize’
The Yorkshire Society have announced the launch of the Harry Gration History Prize 2023/24, a celebration of Yorkshire’s vibrant history and a tribute to the much-loved broadcaster, journalist and former history teacher Harry Gration.
This competition is open to history enthusiasts of all ages, from young budding historians to seasoned amateurs, using original research to explore the history of Yorkshir, from the time of the Brigantes to the present day.
Participants are invited to create a short essay based on their original research.
The competition is conducted in collaboration with the University of Huddersfield, ensuring that submissions receive expert attention. Entries will be assessed by a distinguished panel of Yorkshire writers and historians, offering participants an opportunity to showcase their passion and research.
Prizes:
Winners will receive, a share of a cash prize amounting of £250, a prestigious certificate and the publication of their winning essays on the Yorkshire Society’s official website. Additionally, winners will enjoy media coverage of their success and will attend the Society’s Heritage Summit in Hull on 11th May 2024.
