WHS member Lorraine Simpson will be giving a talk to the Wakefield Quakers about the diaries of John Edward Bowman which she has transcribed and we have published. John Bowman was a lifelong and committed Quaker and the talk will take place at the Quaker Meeting House on Thornhill Street at 5.30pm. The invitation will be open to Quakers in surrounding areas and to members of Wakefield Historical Society. The talk is free with no need to book.
There will be an opportunity to visit the Burial Ground behind the Meeting House where John Bowman and his wife Janie are buried; it is a secret oasis of peace and greenery in the middle of the city.
The Diary is still available and is a snip at £9.95 for 500 pages! It will be on sale at Lorraine’s talk on 6 September,
