We have been contacted by the Poppy Grave Visit Program Coordinator for the British & Commonwealth Remembrance Project Inc. They are a US based charity that visits and educates on the 1000+ Commonwealth War graves based in the USA. He writes that a recent visit to Americus, Georgia, USA, by their Georgia team unearthed an interesting inscription on the tombstone of Clarence Melville Johnson which states he was born in Wakefield in 1916. They have tracked his parents, Charles and Mary Ann Johnson to Sandal. It seems he was a pilot cadet and had just graduated from flight training in class 42-C when he was in a road traffic accident.
