Good news that Wakefield Council has agreed the sale of key properties in the Civic Quarter in Wakefield to Rushbond, for the conversion of the old Crown Court building and the old Police Station alongside new-build homes, as part of a plan to create a residential community where people can live, work and socialise.
The plans are the latest stage in the Council’s long term aim to transform the area, having already put in place actions to ensure key historic buildings have undergone repairs and renovation works to preserve and protect them.
The plan includes an intention for Wakefield’s former Crown Court, which has recently undergone extensive weatherproofing to be brought back into use, potentially as a community hub, and to create a mix of residential development, at the former Police Station, at Wood Street, on the former multi-storey car park on Rishworth Street and at Gills Yard.
