An interesting online talk today by Josh Flint from Leeds Central Library on the Battle of Wakefield in 1460. Having given some background to the battle and the Wars of the Roses, he described some of the books that the library hold which mention the battle. Although little was recorded about it contemperaneously, the early authors made suppositions which were then repeated in later books as facts. It is not known why the Yorkists left the safety of Sandal Castle to face a much larger Lancastrian Army, and historians still speculate about the reason
