“Lost Villages Found”
An online conference to be held on Saturday 23rd October 2021, 2.00 to 5.30 pm
During 2020, YAHS had hoped that it might be possible to arrange a conference to mark the one hundredth anniversary of the birth of archaeologist and historian and long-standing YAS member and supporter, and Past President, Professor Maurice Beresford (1920-2005). Unfortunately the coronavirus pandemic intervened. The conference has now been arranged as an online eventin the afternoon of Saturday 23rd October 2021, from 2.00 to 5.30 pm, and will be facilitated by Zoom.
It will celebrate Professor Beresford’s work on what were once called deserted medieval villages and highlight some aspects of more recent study of medieval rural settlements under the title ‘Lost Villages Found’.
There will be a charge of £10 (or £5 for YAHS Medieval Section members) and all conference participants will receive a copy of a special edition of the journal of the Society’s Medieval Section ‘Medieval Yorkshire’ with a focus on Professor Beresford including reprints of some of his ground-breaking articles, with additional contributions by Dr Brian Barber and by Dr Helen Fenwick.
