News from Friends of Waterton’s Wall

From their January newsletter – some information about events organised by the charity, and updates on progress:

  • Following the ecological appraisal there have been several site meetings to ensure that any work we undertake has minimal impact on the surrounding flora and fauna. The area that we will work on does not have any TPOs.
  • We intend to complete the initial groundwork by 1 March.
  • WordFest 2024: we are organising an oral history event, ‘Swapping Stories – Memories of Walton Hall’ on 11 May 2024, 10am – 3pm, at Waterton Park Hotel.
  • Our new website and revised pamphlet printed are in draft form… watch this space!
  • ‘Our Year’ is Wakefield MDC’s cultural offer in 2024. Look out for events that we are planning.
  • The hotel’s new café will include several prints of Charles Waterton’s life courtesy of Wakefield Museum. Thank you to John Whitaker for facilitating
  • Helen Riddle has donated her project, ‘A Stitch in Time’ to the charity. Thank you, Helen.
