What were the thoughts that went through a Lupset farmer’s mind 200 years ago? Was he worried about his family? Did he care about his workers? What did he think of his neighbours in Wakefield and Horbury? How much did the weather affect him? Was he religious? Did he know about national and international affairs? These questions are answered in a new weekly blog with excerpts from the three journals of Matthew Tomlinson 1806-1812, 1832-1834 and 1836-1839.
The blog will post short excerpts from Tomlinson’s Journals. They will follow the year, with suitable excerpts taken from any of the three journals
A transcription of all Matthew Tomlinson’s Journals with a full introduction and notes will be published soon by Wakefield Historical Publications in collaboration with Wakefield Library:
