Nearly September and, as always, Heritage Open Days in our area are offering a wide selection of events, with many venues opening especially. Walks are available around Stanley Royd Hospital, Wakefield Parks, the bridges at Bretton and in Wakefield City Centre and many more. Churches are opening their doors and there are opportunities to visit the crypts and towers in churches such as St John’s. The Gissing Centre, set up by our Society is also open over both weekends. A little further afield there are other interesting events in the district, at Pontefract, Hemsworth and Felkirk for instance. And if you enjoy listening to stories – Storytrail has a number of events, all suitable for children!
