This invitation is to members of our Society.
Would you like to understand how to research the unusual record of property and other transactions known as the Registry of Deeds at the West Yorkshire History Centre? From 1704 up to 1970 people could register any formal transaction, such as conveyances, leases, wills and business agreements to make sure that they couldn’t be challenged. It is a wonderful source for building history, family history and all sorts of other information. As part of the Westgate HAZ Project we are trying to widen community access to sources of information and we have already held a session for members of the Research Group.
We now are offering places on a further session to Historical Society members. It will be a two-hour session on a weekday morning at the West Yorkshire History Centre, probably in June. You don’t have to be a serious historian, just interested in ways of finding out about the past. Please express an interest to pamjudkins@btinternet.com if you would like to come.
When we know how many, we will open the booking beyond the Society to fill any empty places. The Registry of Deeds only has space for about 8-10.
