Buildings at Risk Register 2023 published
Historic England has recently published its annual regional reports on Buildings at Risk in 2023. The lists include not only listed buildings, but also Places of Worship, Archaeological Sites, Parks and Gardens, Battlefields, Historic Wrecks, and Conservation Areas.
The list for the Wakefield District remains fairly static, with 15 sites listed. The only new entry is the Watergate at Walton Hall. Lupset Hall is on the list for the second year, as being in very poor condition, in spite of plans for conversion into flats. Places including the Hermitage in Pontefract and the Court House in Wakefield remain on the list because although solutions have been identified, no work has been implemented. Archaeological sites remain particularly difficult to improve, with all 5 sites (Earthwork west of Ferrybridge, Newland Preceptory, Sharlston Common coal and ironstone workings, Post medieval tannery at Felkirk, South Kirkby Camp) having been on the list for several years.
