CONNECTIONS, Hoylandswaine Arts Group and Penistone Arts Week 2022, 10 March
The de Morgan Museum at Cannon Hall and Hoylandswaine Arts Group cordially invite you to join us on Thursday 10 March in Hoylandswaine Parish Church for an evening of music, exhibition, readings from the diary of Roddam’s niece, Winifred Julia Spencer Stanhope and talks by Sheila Binns and Sarah Hardy, but above all to view the mural, stained glass window and architecture of the church.
It will celebrate the work of W H Crossland, the architect of the church. The first speaker will be Sheila Binns, the author of the recently published book on Crossland, one of the unsung greats of Victorian architecture. The second speaker will be Sarah Hardy of the de Morgan Collection, part of which is housed in nearby Cannon Hall. She will talk about the links between John Roddam Spencer Stanhope, the painter of the mural in the church, and his niece and her husband, the ceramicists, the de Morgans.
