LCA114 being launched by Mrs Lilly Drake on 13th October 1943. The slipway was at Earnshaws timber yard off Doncaster Road, where Howarth Timber is today. The landing craft was lowered into the water from the back of Drake & Warters’ purpose built flat bed lorry.
LCA1141 afloat in the Fall Ing cut, following its launch. Drake & Warters employees are checking all is well, before the landing craft is tested on its maiden run between the Flood Lock and the railway bridge over the canalised River Calder.
